Updated: Jun 10

This adults-only summer refresher is perfect for BBQs, beach days, or poolside parties! Featuring a juicy seedless watermelon infused with your favorite liquor—rum, vodka, or even a splash of wine—this is a flexible, crowd-pleasing treat scaled for large gatherings (12–14 servings).

Prep Time: 5 minutes

Additional Time: 3 hours (or overnight for best results)

Total Time: 3 hours 5 minutes

Servings: 12–14

Ingredients

· 1 large seedless watermelon (10–12 lbs)

· 3 to 3½ cups rum (or liquor of choice), or as needed

Directions

1. Wash the outside of the watermelon thoroughly and dry it.

2. Place the melon securely on a towel so it doesn’t roll.

3. Use a funnel or a sharp paring knife to create a small hole in the top. If using a plastic funnel, you may need to carve a snug hole for it.

4. Slowly pour rum into the funnel in small amounts, allowing time for the liquor to absorb. Refill as needed until the melon is infused (usually 3 to 3½ cups).

5. Let the watermelon rest in the refrigerator or a cool spot for at least 3 hours—overnight for stronger flavor.

6. Before serving, remove the funnel and slice into wedges or cubes.

Fun Variations & Serving Ideas

· Try cutting the watermelon into cubes first and marinating it overnight in pineapple-flavored rum. Then, make a tropical punch using melon sparkling wine and ginger ale, and float the boozy cubes in it.

· For a punch-style twist, scoop out the watermelon flesh and strain the juice. Mix it with frozen limeade, vodka, and a splash of sweetened lime juice. Serve chilled in a clear pitcher for visual flair.

· Hollow out the watermelon like a bowl, discard the flesh, and return the juice with a mix of lemon-lime soda, crushed ice, and gin or vodka. Cap the lid, chill, and serve with straws for a retro beach-party feel.

· Chill your whole watermelon in a cold river or cooler before serving—it’s an old-fashioned method for a refreshing treat after a day in the sun.

· Use a marinade injector to infuse cubes with flavored vodka like watermelon or citrus. Serve ice-cold in a chilled bowl for an easy adult snack.

· Experiment with liquors like coconut rum or tequila for a tropical spin. The longer it soaks, the better the flavor develops—overnight is ideal.

Note: Always enjoy responsibly. This recipe is intended for adults of legal drinking age.
