This unique fruity chili is a sweet twist on a classic American dish. With the addition of fruit like apples, peaches, and banana peppers, it brings a new flavor profile to the table. This scaled-up version serves 12-14 people, perfect for large gatherings, family meals, or casual get-togethers.
Ingredients:
3 pounds ground beef
¾ cup chopped red onion
¾ cup chopped banana peppers
3 apples, peeled, cored, and chopped
3 peaches, peeled, pitted, and chopped
2 (14 ounce) cans tomato sauce
2 (15 ounce) cans kidney beans, rinsed and drained
6 tablespoons chili powder, divided
3 tablespoons white sugar, divided
½ teaspoon cayenne pepper, divided (Optional)
1 ½ teaspoons cooking oil
Directions:
1. Combine tomato sauce, kidney beans, 4 tablespoons chili powder, 2 tablespoons sugar, and ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper in a large saucepan; bring to a simmer over low heat.
2. In a large skillet, heat oil over medium-high heat. Add ground beef and cook until browned, about 5 minutes. Add the remaining chili powder, sugar, and cayenne pepper; cook for 2-3 minutes. Stir in the beef mixture into the sauce.
3. In the same skillet, sauté the onion and banana peppers until softened, about 3-4 minutes. Add to the sauce mixture, followed by chopped apples, peaches, and banana pepper.
4. Allow the chili to simmer for an additional 10-15 minutes until the ingredients are well combined and heated through. Stir occasionally.
5. Serve hot and enjoy with your favorite sides like cornbread, French fries, or a fresh green salad.

Suggestions for Customization and Variations:
For extra sweetness, replace half of the white sugar with brown sugar for a richer taste.
Add some heat by stirring in a chopped jalapeño or using extra cayenne pepper.
To lighten the dish, substitute the ground beef with ground turkey or chicken.
For a more savory version, add a can of diced tomatoes along with the tomato sauce.
Serve with a dollop of sour cream or shredded cheese for a creamy contrast to the chili's sweetness.
Try adding other fruits like pineapple or mango for a different flavor twist.
For a heartier dish, serve the chili over a bed of rice or baked potatoes.
This fruity chili offers a delightful combination of sweet and spicy flavors that will keep everyone coming back for more. Whether served as a standalone dish or with classic sides, it's the perfect meal for large gatherings.
