This scaled-up recipe serves 12-14 people and is ideal for large gatherings, potlucks, or family get-togethers.

Ingredients:

  1. Cooking spray (such as Crisco®)

  2. 1 cup butter

  3. 2 onions, minced

  4. 6 tablespoons Dijon mustard

  5. 2 tablespoons poppy seeds

  6. 4 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce, or more to taste

  7. 2 (12 count) packages Hawaiian sweet rolls, split, or more as needed

  8. 2 pounds sliced deli ham, or more as needed

  9. 16 slices Swiss cheese, or more as needed

Directions:

1. Gather all ingredients. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Spray a 9x13-inch baking dish with cooking spray.

2. Melt butter in a saucepan over medium-low heat; cook and stir onion in the melted butter until softened, 5 to 10 minutes. Add mustard, poppy seeds, and Worcestershire sauce; cook and stir for 5 minutes.

3. Arrange the roll bottoms in the prepared baking dish. Spoon 2/3 of the onion mixture over top.

4. Add ham and cheese to each roll.

5. Place the roll tops over the cheese layer, then brush the remaining onion mixture over top.

6. Cover the dish with aluminum foil. Bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes.

7. Remove aluminum foil and bake until the roll tops are lightly browned, 5 to 10 minutes.

Suggestions for Customization and Variations:

To reduce the butter content, use less butter or try replacing part of it with olive oil.

For added sweetness, spread peach or peach-mango preserve on the bottom bun before assembling.

Switch up the cheese by using cheddar, pepper jack, or a mix of cheeses for a unique twist.

Make these sliders ahead of time and store them in the fridge; bake them fresh when you're ready to serve.

To make them spicier, add a layer of jalapeños or use a spicy mustard instead of Dijon.

For a vegetarian version, substitute the ham with roasted vegetables or a plant-based deli meat.

These Keys Ham and Cheese Sliders are the perfect combination of savory and sweet with a hint of smokiness. They are sure to be a hit at any gathering, whether you serve them as a party appetizer or a quick and satisfying meal.
